Ways to improve facilities and activities for young people will be agreed when a special meeting of the Action: St Oswald and Ruyton-XI-Towns local meeting pilot is held at Trefonen Village Hall on Monday 25 February, starting at 7.00pm. All local residents are welcome to attend.
Action: St Oswald and Ruyton-XI-Towns is holding four main meetings this financial year to allow local people to raise issues of importance with their local councillors.
The meeting held in September agreed to spend up to £20,000 of the committee’s £40,000 budget on improving facilities and activities for young people in the area – and young people and youth organisations were invited to bid for funds.
All applications for funds have been assessed by young people, and the meeting on 25 February has been specially arranged to consider their recommendations and decide how to spend the money.
June Drummond, Shropshire County Councillor for St Oswald, and Dilys Gaskill, Shropshire County Councillor for Ruyton-XI-Towns, said: “At our meeting in September the committee agreed that improving facilities for young people in the area would be our top priority, and we were delighted that the committee agreed to spend up to half of our budget towards this. At our meeting on 25 February we will be able to find out just what local young people think they need – and decide how best to allocate our funds.”
The Action: St Oswald and Ruyton-XI-Towns meetings have a committee of county, district, town and parish councillors drawn from the area, and a budget which the committee allocates in response to issues raised by members of the public.
