On-street parking charges in Ludlow not suspended

South Shropshire District Council has announced that on Thursday 13 December the car parks in Ludlow will be free to all visitors after 4pm and the shops will be open to 8pm.

However, for legal reasons Shropshire County Council is unable to suspend the charges for the spaces that are on street. These will be free after 6pm.

Therefore the County Council is advising people, when they park on street, that they park in a marked space and display their ticket.

Hugh Dannatt, Shropshire County Council’s group manager for traffic strategy, said: “Unfortunately legal orders that cover the car parks and the legal orders that cover the on street parking are different. Where as one is intended to provide parking the other is intended to manage the public highway and is therefore more restrictive.

“We’d like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience or confusion this may cause.”
