The Mount in Shrewsbury will be closed for five days from Monday 23 June to allow urgent repair work to a sewer.

Dynorod working with Shropshire County Council have stabilised the area after the sewer main burst on Tuesday (17 June), but the road needs to be closed while repairs to the sewer are carried out.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place on the Mount until Monday (23 June), when a signed diversion route will direct traffic from the road closure. Traffic will be diverted via the B4386 Copthorne Road, along the B4380 Shelton Road, and then the A458 the Mount and vice versa.

Access will be maintained for residents and dismounted cyclists.

Shropshire County Council has ensured that this unexpected closure is co-ordinated to minimise future disruption. Future scheduled works by BT and maintenance works by the council’s highways team will now be undertaken within these five days.

John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “We are sorry for the inconvenience and disruption these works will cause. We hope to complete them in the shortest time possible, whilst maintaining the safety of the workforce.

“We have been working with utility companies and the highways maintenance teams to ensure that any future disruption can be minimised, by co-ordinating scheduled works to take place within these five days.”
