Next Thursday (22 November) Shropshire Safeguarding Children’s Board will be hosting a conference about new technologies and child protection.
The aim of the conference is to raise awareness of the risks posed to children and young people though the day-to- day use of new technologies such as the Internet and mobile phones.
Carol Tiddy, Chair of the Shropshire Safeguarding Children’s Board, said: “The Internet can be a fantastic place for young people to learn, have fun and engage with their family and friends. However, there are risks which children and young people need to be aware of to ensure they can protect themselves. This conference will help staff who are working with families gain a better understanding of Internet safety issues.
"Shropshire Safeguarding Children’s Board want young people and their parents to be aware of the risks they may encounter using the Internet and that, by taking some simple steps, these risks can dramatically reduce,” Carol Tiddy added.
The board will also be launching their new website about child protection issues. The website can be accessed at www.shropshire.gov.uk/childprotection (see link) and will contain advice for children, young people, parents and professionals around Internet safety issues.
