Closure of disabled parking bays for essential works

Press release - 5 July 2007

Five disabled parking bays in the centre of Shrewsbury are to be closed later this month (Monday 23 July) to enable the safe access of Mardol House for external inspection purposes.

These five bays will be closed from 8am until 6pm on either side of the market hall complex.

Essential assessment work will involve inspection and sampling of concrete sections in order to find out the condition of the building and how best to repair this.

Carrying out the works, Peter Cowlard, Markers Parking’s divisional technical manager, said: “We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience these works may cause, however we do hope that people will understand that this closure is essential for the safety of both the public and our workers.”

Some extensive work to repair sections of the building was carried out last year, however some units have found to be showing further signs of distress.

Other disabled bays will remain available in the town centre.
