Councillors call for residents to have their say

Residents are being encouraged to air their views on the proposed Mountfields’ residents parking scheme at a special Economy and Environment scrutiny meeting next week (Tuesday 21 October 2008).

This meeting will take place at 6pm at the Guildhall, Shrewsbury and will mark the end of the Mountfields’ residents parking consultation.

In addition to hearing peoples’ views on the proposed scheme, members of the panel will also be looking at responses to the proposals and considering whether to take forward the parking scheme.

Alan Mosley, Shropshire County Council’s Chair of the Economy and Environment scrutiny panel, said: “This is a very important meeting, not just for Mountfields but for the many residents in similar areas who have been asking that parking schemes be considered for their area. We will be discussing whether, or not, the pilot in Mountfields should proceed and also whether to go ahead elsewhere.

"We will consider the process of consultation, receive the results and we will be delighted to hear the views of the public.”

Anne Chebsey, Shropshire County Councillor for Porthill, said: “It is vitally important that residents have their say during the last few days of this consultation, as we have reached a critical point as to whether to progress the scheme or not.

“I encourage residents to come along to the scrutiny meeting and let the Council know their comments on the proposals.”

Letters with response forms have been sent to all residents in the area, these should be returned to the County Council by Tuesday 21 October, or alternatively residents can hand them to officers at the scrutiny meeting.
