Tributes have been paid to Rodney Davies, county councillor for Market Drayton, who passed away yesterday (Thursday 3 April) at the age of 63, following a long illness.
Rodney Davies had served as county councillor for Market Drayton since 2005.
He was vice chairman of the council’s audit committee, member of the council’s economy and environment scrutiny panel and community services scrutiny panel, and a member of the Shropshire & Telford and Wrekin Fire Authority.
He was also a member of Market Drayton Town Council and a governor at Market Drayton Infant & Nursery School.
Brian Gillow, Chairman of Shropshire County Council and county councillor for the Market Drayton Rural division, said: “I was deeply saddened to hear of the sudden death of Rodney Davies, who was a great servant to Shropshire County Council and to the people of Market Drayton, as well as being a close personal friend.
“My thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time, and I would like to express my condolences to them on behalf of the county council.”
The county flag at Shirehall in Shrewsbury is being flown at half-mast today (Friday) as a mark of respect to Rodney Davies, and county councillors will hold a short silence in his memory at today’s full council meeting.
