Shropshire Children’s Trust Anti-Bullying Charter was launched on Monday 16 June at a celebration event held at Shirehall in Shrewsbury.
Pupils from nine Shropshire schools shared examples of the anti-bullying work that they have been leading on over the last year as part of the Children’s Fund anti-bullying project. The focus of the work is the emotional health and well-being of the children, in particular support for anti-bullying. Each school involved has also reached the National Healthy Schools standard.
Shropshire Children’s Trust and Safeguarding Children Board have been working with partner agencies, teachers, pupils, young people and parents on developing an Anti-Bullying Charter for Action. Its aim is to be used by any agency or group that works with children, young people and families in Shropshire.
Ann Hartley, Cabinet member for children’s services said: “Bullying in any form is not acceptable and Shropshire County Council in partnership with other Children's Trust agencies, schools and young people have been working hard to reduce the harmful affects of bullying.”
The Charter defines bullying as: 'behaviour by an individual or group, usually repeated over time, that intentionally hurts another individual or group either physically or emotionally'.
Partners who sign up to the charter will agree that they are working to create a culture where any form of bullying is unacceptable.
