Press release - 11 June 2007
Harley Bank (A458) in Much Wenlock will be closed later this month (Sunday 24 June) to enable an in depth survey to be carried out on a rock face above the road.
The closure, in place from 7am until 9pm, follows a routine visual survey undertaken by Shropshire County Council highway engineers, which raised concerns of rock stability.
Visual surveys will be carried out each day to monitor the rock face to identify and address any further deterioration. If the rock face does deteriorate it may be necessary to bring the road closure forward.
Whilst this road is closed traffic will be diverted north on the A458 to Cressage, southeast on the B4380 to Eaton Constantine and Buildwas, southwest on the A4169 to Much Wenlock and vice versa.
Richard Suggett, Shropshire County Council’s coordination manager for the South, said: “I would like to apologise for the inconvenience this may cause but also emphasise that road closures are only considered after every other alternative solution has proved unfeasible on the grounds of safety.
“Due to the nature of the work this closure is regrettable, however unavoidable in this instance.”
