Press release - 2 August 2007
The Shrewsbury Park & Ride service is to be extended early this month (Friday 10 and Saturday 11 August) to cater for people visiting the town’s annual flower show.
The three Park & Ride sites, operated by both Shropshire County Council and Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council, offer travel into and out of the town for just £1.
The sites are easily located at Harlescott (near the new Tesco store), Oxon Business Park and Meole Brace Retail Park. All of these are signposted from the major routes into the town.
Buses will start from 7.30am on Friday and 8am on Saturday and will operate every 10 minutes until 7pm. After this time buses will continue every 15 minutes until 9.30pm. The service will start again after the fireworks, with the last departure from the town centre at around 10.15pm.
Bus stops will be conveniently located at Shoplatch and Barker Street with the show being accessible via St Johns Hill and Claremont Hill.
After the fireworks display the last bus will leave the Bellstone for Harlescott, Barker Street for Meole Brace and St Austin Street for Oxon. Stewards will be available to direct people to the correct stop.
John Everall, Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “Shrewsbury Park & Ride offers a stress free way of getting into and out of the town centre during this exceptionally busy period. At just £1 return, the service provides excellent value for money.”
