Work to create a safer route to Highley Primary School will begin on Monday 7 January.
Shropshire County Council will carry out improvements to the existing pedestrian refuge on Bridgnorth Road, Highley near Redstone Drive.
A new, wider refuge will replace the existing pedestrian refuge in the same location and dropped crossings will be put in place on Willow Drive. In addition to these measures, flashing amber hazard warning lights will be installed on Bridgnorth Road on both approaches to the new refuge.
The work will be carried out under temporary traffic light control and an alternative pedestrian crossing location will be marked out during the works. It is anticipated that the works will take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting.
John Everall, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for environment and sustainability, said: “These measures will hopefully create a safer and more pleasant route to school for pupils, parents and staff. We hope that by introducing these it will encourage more and more people to walk and cycle to school.”
Parents, pupils and staff at Highley Primary School have been involved in identifying ways to encourage more walking and cycling to school, and highlighted concerns about safety when crossing Bridgnorth Road.
