The Leisure Development Team aims to encourage and enable all communities in Shropshire to benefit from participating in sport and physical activity. This will be achieved by working in partnership with key agencies and other providers to develop and improve local opportunities for all abilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting the development of local sports clubs and community groups by providing technical and operational advice
- Helping clubs and other organisations source appropriate funding, and supporting their applications
- Delivering externally funded projects that are aimed at mass participation in sport for those aged 14 and above
- Working with a range of partners to ensure sport is promoted as a positive and influential activity
- Recruiting new sports coaches and volunteers and then monitoring and supporting them
- Working with schools to help develop youth participation in such areas as volunteering, and the development of links between schools and sport clubs
- Liaising with national governing bodies of sport to deliver sport that is meaningful in terms of developing talented sportsmen and women, and in encouraging as many people as possible to take part
- Coaching and coach education opportunities
- Event management and promotion of major events
- Information access through co-ordinated marketing of websites, social media, newsletters etc
