Free Swimming

What is the Free Swimming scheme?

Free swimming is a new initiative supported by central Government to make the nation more active. Funding is initially available for two years from April 2009.

Who can swim for free?

Any persons over the age of 60 years old and under the age of 18 years old will be entitled to swim for free at all participating pools. Proof of age may be required.

N.B. Eligibility criteria is set by central Government. Please see the Passport to Leisure page for details of discounts available for full time students, carers and those in receipt of various benefits (see the Related Information section on this page).

Where can I swim for free?

Those entitled to swim for free will be able to do so at the following swimming venues. Note that discussion is taking place to offer free swimming at other pools within the county so please revisit this web site from time to time.

When can I swim for free?

Any one who is eligible can swim for free during any general public swimming session. Note that this offer does not extend to structured swimming sessions such as swimming lessons, children’s play activities, club activities, etc, unless otherwise stated by the individual swimming centre.

I live in Shropshire but swim out of the county - can I still swim for free?

Yes, providing that the Local Authority who controls the pool where you swim has elected to participate in the Governments voluntary scheme of free swimming provision. For example all participating pools within Telford offer free swimming.

I live outside of Shropshire but use a swimming pool in the county - can I still swim for free?

Yes.
