Sport and Leisure Events

The Sports Development Team organises and supports a number of sport and leisure events each year. Our aim is to encourage as many people as possible to take part in sport or physical recreation and so events can range from competition or just simply participation.

Events 2010

Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile

Sunday 21 March 2010

The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile is back in Shropshire for 2010 and it’s your time to shine. From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock, there’s something for everyone on the big day – whether you choose to tackle 1, 3 or 6 miles. Best of all, the money you raise by getting sponsored will be used to transform lives forever. So come on Shropshire people, rise to the challenge!

Events will take place at the following locations:

The Grove School, Market Drayton
11.00am start for all runners, gates open 10.30am
Refreshments available

Shrewsbury Sports Village
A choice of start times are available - 10.00am, 12noon or 2.00pm

Ludlow CE School
A choice of start times are available - 11.00am, 12noon or 1.00pm
A mass warm up will be held by Teme Leisure at 10.30am, prior to the first run
Participants are encouraged to come in fancy dress and there will be a prize for the best dressed on the day.

All events are open to anyone of any age who wants to run or walk any of the 1, 3 or 6 mile distances available.

Swimathon 2010

The annual Swimathon fundraising event will take place in April with over 500 swimming pools takingpart across the country. Proceeds from participants' sponsorship go towards Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation.

Step Out in Wem this Christmas event

Thursday 3 December, 11.30am,at Edinburgh House, New Street, Wem

Around 60 regular walkers and local residents took part in one of two walks around the town and surrounding countryside, to celebrate 3 years of the Walking for Health scheme in Wem. Participants then joined the Leisure Services team back at Edinburgh House for a festive buffet, prize draw and quiz.
