The Science and Technology Centre provides high quality educational equipment and materials to schools to help them fulfil the requirements of the national curriculum, mainly within design and technology, mathematics, science and information and communication technology (ICT). A number of the products are produced in-house in response to requests directly from schools.
As part of the Education Advisory Service for Shropshire, the centre works closely with advisers and teachers to ensure that the materials, equipment and software supplied are the most suitable for the purpose.
As well as supplying software to schools the centre maintains a database of software supplied by the centre to help schools with their software audits. The centre is also the supplier of Microsoft products for Shropshire Local Authority (LA).
To enable schools to make best use of their e-Learning Credits (eLCs) budget the centre is able to administer them on their behalf, maintaining records of their spending under the budget and informing them of which products are eligible for eLCs.
Within design and technology the service has developed a range of Department for Education and Skills (DfES) / Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) schemes of work packages. These pull together the most appropriate items to enable the schemes to be undertaken with the minimum of teacher preparation time and enable varied and appropriate products to be produced with the maximum of success.
Catalogues of equipment and materials are available online, through these webpages.
