This section is focused on supporting early years and childcare provision in nurturing respect and acceptance for all the similarities and differences of children, parents and families in the community, and actively promoting equality of opportunity and inclusive practice for all children.
Providers are encouraged to be proactive in supporting children with additional needs by providing staff members with the appropriate skills and training that will help them better understand the needs of individual children. This will enable all children to make a positive contribution and to fulfil their potential.
SENCO
This year this training has been substantially revised.
There are now three sessions of training covering the role and responsibilities of the setting SENCO. These can be extended by accessing the training in specific areas of need that are offered in this section.
Children with physical difficulties
We continue to offer a bespoke model of training to support children with physical difficulties. This is to help providers train all staff together in their settings, at a time which will more effectively meet the needs of the children attending the setting at that time.
Details are on the attachment, 'Physical Difficulties in Early Years and Childcare Settings' on this page.
Some of the courses in this section have not been mapped against the Common Core Competencies and the Early Years Foundation Stage as the subjects and content are not specifically designed to match these criteria. Overall they support "Positive Contribution" from Every Child Matters outcomes.
