Skilled to go
Developed by the Office of Fair Trading and LLU+ at London South Bank University, Skilled to go helps to develop transferable consumer skills, knowledge and confidence. It uses everyday consumer situations, such as choosing a mobile phone, as contexts for learning numeracy and literacy.
There are versions of Skilled to go for adult and secondary education.
Consumer Challenge
The Consumer Challenge Quiz is aimed at young people with specific learning needs aged between 11 and 18. They answer a series of questions on issues such as consumer rights, food labelling, road safety and age restricted products.
The Trading Standards Service no longer hosts the Quiz. However, schools wishing to organize their own event can contact us for guidance and verification of the questions.
Crucial Crew
Child safety events have been running for several years in Shropshire, and are aimed at year 6 children (aged 10-11), an age where they are becoming more independent and need to know how to behave in an emergency or risk situation. Trading Standards Service is no longer directly involved with this project. However, issues around age-restricted products are covered in the work books that are issued to the children.
Ask CEdRIC - Consumer Education Resource and Information Centre
The 'Ask CEdRIC' website has been developed by Cambridgeshire County Council Trading Standards. It aims to provide consumer educators and teachers with all they need to teach the consumer education related aspects of the Citizenship curriculum, for KS1-4.
