Why we are here

This service aims to:

• Protect the community from illegal or unfair trading practices.
• Protect the local economy, by ensuring Shropshire's traders do not suffer from unfair competition.
• Forge close links with the business community and wherever possible ease the legislative burden.
• Protect the local economy by ensuring the highest level of animal health and welfare.

We are responsible for a significant number of Acts of Parliament and other legislation which is supported by many Codes of Practice and standards.

We make visits to manufactures, distributors, retailers and service providers using risk assessment criteria to target our activities. Products and services are sampled and tested to quality and safety standards.

We target rogue traders and age-restricted sales; in particular alcohol when related to anti-social behaviour.
