Zebra crossing and 20mph zone successfully completed
Parents, teachers and pupils at St John’s RC Primary School, St Leonard’s CE Primary School and Bridgnorth Endowed Secondary School have been working together with local councillors and council officers to progress a Safer Routes to School project in Innage Lane, Bridgnorth.
Over the last three years, improvements have included:
- a raised plateau at the junction of Innage Gardens and Innage Lane
- an extended footway at Innage Crescent
- alterations to the kerb line and footways at The Hookfield and Greenfields Road
- construction of two humped zebra crossings
- introduction of a 20 mph zone
The 20mph zone and new zebra crossings were completed in November 2007 and are already being well-used. The improved crossing facilities will help to support other school initiatives such as ‘walk to school’ week, ‘walking bus’ and ‘park-and-stride’.
The new 20mph signs incorporate artwork from pupils at St Leonard’s and St John’s Primary Schools. The pictures were selected after a competition at the schools, where pupils were asked to design road safety messages.
Thank you
The council would like to thank local residents and businesses in Innage Lane who have had to put up with several periods of road works for the Safer Routes project, as well as works by Severn Trent Water.
Don’t forget
If you are driving or parking on Innage Lane, please:
- keep to 20mph and look out for children
- don’t park on the hump or zigzag markings and use the car park if possible
