Local Transport Plan

What is the Local Transport Plan (LTP)?

The LTP sets out the strategy and action plan for improving local transport facilities and services in Shropshire.

The council submitted the Local Transport Plan covering the period 2006-11 to the Department for Transport at the end of March 2006. You can view the most recent plan and the previous plan by following the links in the menu.

Local Transport Plan progress in 2006/07 and 2007/08

We have published a report outlining the progress the council and our partners have made towards achieving our Local Transport Plan aims and objectives over during 2006/07 and 2007/08.

Achievements over the past two years include:

  • We have achieved a 57% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured on Shropshire roads (compared to the 1994-98 baseline).
  • We have seen a reduction in traffic levels in Shrewsbury as a result of reduced levels of through traffic, and traffic growth across the county has being contained within target levels.
  • We are on track to implement over 100 new village speed limits over the course of the LTP period.
  • The number of bus passenger journeys has increased by 4% over the first two years of LTP delivery, and park and ride use has increased by 12%.
  • We are on course to achieve significant improvements in rural accessibility; the implementation of the rural transport strategy in November 2008 has increased the proportion of rural households with at least a two day a week bus service from 57% to 95%.
  • Almost every school in the county has now prepared and is implementing a school travel plan, and we are on track to achieve our targets for reducing car use and increasing walking and cycling on the school journey.
  • We have seen a 10% increase in cycling in Shrewsbury, and success in obtaining Connect 2 and Cycling Town funding means that we have been able to set a new ambitious target to double cycling levels over the remainder of the LTP period.
  • We are on track to achieve our target for highway condition, and have adopted a better value for money and more customer focused approach to maintaining our highway asset.

You can download the attached report to find out more about our progress over the past two years.

LTP Delivery Report 2001-06

In 2006 the council produced a five year delivery report outlining its progress against the targets set in the first LTP covering the period 2001-2006. The delivery report was submitted to the government at the end of July 2006 and can be read by following the link on this page.
