A zebra has arrived in Ludlow!
A zebra crossing has been opened on Lower Galdeford so that children can now enjoy a safer route to school.
The crossing was officially opened in February 2008 by John Everall, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member for environment and sustainability with the help of some pupils and staff from the St Laurence CE Primary School Walking Bus, local Council members and the Shropshire Council staff and contractors who worked on the development of the scheme.
The Department for Transport’s Road Safety mascot ‘Spike’ the hedgehog also attended to help out!
The Council has funded the construction of a zebra crossing as part of its work with the school on ‘Safer Routes to School’.
Parents, pupils and staff at St Laurence Primary School have been involved in identifying ways to encourage more walking and cycling to school and adopted a School Travel Plan in 2006. One of the key issues that came out of the plan was pedestrian safety when crossing Lower Galdeford.
