Travel to school or college

Sustainable Travel to School Strategy
The council has recently drafted a Sustainable Travel to School Strategy which outlines how we propose to encourage more use of sustainable and healthy modes of travel to school. Follow the link in the menu to find out more.
Over 40,000 pupils aged three to 18 are educated in Shropshire each year. Transport assistance is provided to over 8,500 of them each day. To find out more about what assistance is available and how to apply, follow the link in the menu to applying for transport assistance.
If you are a teacher or head of a school, follow the link in the menu to School Travel Plans. Preparing a travel plan will help reduce the number of car trips made to a school, encourage walking and cycling to school, as well as improve safety on the journey to school.
The link in the menu to Safer Routes to School leads to information and ideas about how the journey to school can be made safer, more environmentally friendly and healthier.
School travel calendar
Why not join in with a special promotional travel week or day? There are often free resources, posters and gifts available for schools that join in. Links to related websites for each of these events can be found on this page.
During bad weather some schools may close. To find out the latest situation follow the school closures link on this page.
Home to School survey
For details of the Home to School survey undertaken in April 2007, view the publication linked on this page.
These surveys take place every three years to gauge the level of satisfaction with the council’s home to school transport. A random selection of pupils, parents and schools are canvassed and asked for comments on how the council could improve performance.
