Shropshire Council is working with parents, pupils and staff at Morda Primary School to improve crossing facilities outside the school.
In recent years, Shropshire Council has funded the introduction of amber flashing warning lights and a number of studies into measures to improve safety and reduce traffic speeds.
In 2007, the council consulted on proposals for a 20mph zone (with speed ‘cushions’), zebra crossing and changes to lines and/or kerbs near Morda Post Office. The results of the consultation were positive and further work is now taking place with a view to introducing some measures later this year.
In June 2008, a temporary School Crossing Patrol started helping children to cross outside the school and this will continue until the end of 2008. During the summer holidays, Phase 1 of the Safer Routes to School project was implemented. This involved additional school signs and changes to lines at the crossroads on Morda Road, Trefonen Road and Weston Road.
October 2008
During the school October half-term break additional carriageway surfacing and footway widening works took place on Erw Wen, at its junction with Morda Road.
