Bridgnorth

Bus Service 436 continues down to Bridgnorth a distinctive town split in two by a sandstone cliff. Travel from one to another on the steepest funicular railway in England. Enjoy the shops, cafes and castle. Steam ahead on the Severn Valley Railway which follows a scenic route from Bridgnorth through riverside villages, the Country Park, the historic town of Bewdley to Kidderminster. A link to the Severn Valley Railway website can be found on this page.

On the A442 south of Bridgnorth, service 297 runs from Monday to Saturday eight times a day to Kidderminster and stops near Dudmaston Hall, a beautiful National Trust House, garden and estate. The house is set in a nine acre lakeside garden with miles of beautiful woodland walks. The National Trust website has more details of the house and grounds, follow the link on this page for further information.

Cycle the Mercian Way (Route 45)

The section of the Mercian Way between Bridgnorth and Bewdley makes a wonderful family day out. This beautiful route follows quiet country lanes and safe, traffic free off-road tracks through unspoilt riverside, woods and meadows.

Part of the route runs alongside the Severn Valley Railway, giving you the opportunity to walk or cycle alongside vintage steam trains. The route also takes in Hampton Loade Ferry; Chelmarsh Reservoir; Highley, with its sculpture and history trails; Severn Valley Country Park; and Arley Arboretum, before reaching the Wyre Forest where there are more stunning off-road tracks. There are also plenty of country pubs to stop and eat along the route.

Follow the links on this page to order or download a copy of the Mercian Way cycle leaflet.
