Make a difference to the management of our Ancient Semi Natural Woodlands.
Woodlands are one of the special qualities of the Shropshire Hills AONB, and valuable for wildlife, landscape, heritage and recreation. As Woodlands Officer for the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership you will research and identify suitable Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites (PAWS) and Ancient Semi Natural Woodlands for improved management and/ or new planting. You will be working in partnership with woodland owners and partner organisations to give management and business advice and with businesses along the supply chain to identify new markets and promote opportunities for training. The job will include making PAWS assessments, writing woodland management plans and giving advice on and help with obtaining grants.
We are looking for a hands-on person with proven experience in woodland management, with particular expertise in Ancient Semi Natural Woodland. You will have worked with foresters, farmers and/ or other businesses along the wood supply chain and contractors, and have a basic knowledge of relevant grant schemes available to help woodland management or supply chain development. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with a wide variety of people.
