Shropshire Music Service is currently seeking new music teachers as follows:

Instrumental teachers: Peripatetic instrumental teachers with energy and vision are required for part-time work in schools as part of the Shropshire Music Service team.

You will be expected to provide individual and group tuition to pupils in school time and in after-school centres and as part of the extended schools initiative after traditional school time.

Expectations are that successful applicants will have a main strength on an instrument/voice and a facility with other instruments in the ‘family’, for example:

Woodwind, either 1 or 2: 1. Main specialism in Flute or Clarinet or Saxophone and ability to teach all. 2. Main strength in Oboe or Bassoon, with ability to teach Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone String, either 1 or 2: 1. Main strength in Violin or Viola and ability to teach early Cello 2. Main strength in Cello or Bass and ability to teach Cello and Bass and early Violin. Brass, either 1 or 2: 1. Main strength in valve instruments with ability to teach Trombone 2. Main strength in Trombone with ability to teach valve instruments Percussion: 1. Drum kit 2. Tuned and unpitched orchestral percussion 3. Latin, African and Afro-Cuban percussion

The expectation is that teachers will be able to teach students to a performing standard of grade 8 for the main instrument.

The ability to contribute to live music in school in a rock and/or an orchestral setting is an essential requirement.

Some teachers will contribute to the Wider Opportunities KS2 programmes where work often involves teaching an instrument to a whole class of KS2 pupils in normal curriculum time.

A driving licence is essential. Employment under Teachers pay and conditions, and appointments subject to enhanced CRB checks. Good professional development and staff induction.
