Household recycling centre survey 2007
Shropshire residents are increasingly satisfied with the county’s recycling centres, according to a survey carried out by Shropshire County Council last month (January 2007).
The survey asked visitors to the county council’s household recycling centres in Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Bridgnorth, Oswestry and Craven Arms to rate the centres, and the service and facilities available at each site.
It followed a similar survey carried out at the same time last year.
In total, more than 83 per cent of those questioned this year said that they were ‘very satisfied’ with the recycling centres overall, compared to 56 per cent in 2006. A further 15 per cent said they were ‘fairly satisfied’.
The top rated sites were those on the Craven Arms Industrial Park and Waymills Civic Park, Whitchurch - with more than 96 per cent of users saying they were ‘very satisfied’ with these centres.
And all visitors to Barnsley Lane recycling centre in Bridgnorth said they were either ‘very’ or ‘fairly’ satisfied with the centre.
The percentage of visitors saying they were ‘very satisfied’ with each of the recycling centres is (2006 survey figures in brackets):
Craven Arms Industrial Park– 96.6 per cent (86 per cent)
Waymills Civic Park, Whitchurch – 96.5 per cent (67 per cent)
Barnsley Lane, Bridgnorth – 88.4 per cent (54 per cent)
Battlefield, Shrewsbury – 80.2 per cent (57 per cent)
Maesbury Road, Oswestry – 78.4 per cent (44 per cent)
John Hurst-Knight, Shropshire County Council’s Cabinet member for waste and economy, said: “As well as proving popular in terms of the number of people visiting, I’m delighted that our customers are so satisfied with the recycling centres and with the services and facilities on offer.
“Last year’s survey showed that people were generally happy with the centres, but also highlighted areas in which improvements were needed. As result, in the last few months we have made a number of changes including improving the range and quality of signage and leaflets available at each centre, something which has clearly been worthwhile and well received.
”We will now be looking to try and improve things still further.”
The survey was carried out on behalf of Shropshire County Council by MEL Research Ltd.
