Unlike most recycling centres, all the facilities at the Shrewsbury centre are under cover inside the building. Watch out for traffic merging as you approach the entrance. For health and safety reasons pedestrians are not allowed to carry waste into the building.
As you drive into the building, there is a reception area on the left for bulky items and electrical goods (such as fridges and TVs) and portholes for scrap metal, cardboard, garden waste, non-recyclable waste, timber and soil and rubble. Recycling banks are on the right, together with a skip for asbestos waste and reception for hazardous materials and fluorescent tubes.
Please wait for a bay to be vacant, reverse into the marked parking bays and park close to the barriers on the left to unload. The portholes are about one metre high - waste has to be lifted to this height so please do not overload bags.
There are no areas where waste such as soil and rubble, or garden materials can be tipped on the ground. Whilst staff will offer to help to unload and deposit waste where practical, they must follow health and safety rules and they cannot lift items which are too heavy. Assistance in unloading loose waste cannot be guaranteed.
As the site can be very busy, particularly at weekends, please be aware of site traffic. It is very important that vehicles do not block exit lanes. The site staff can, at their discretion, refuse access to any vehicle or trailer which is regarded as too large to safely use the recycling centre. Hand wash facilities are now provided on the right, near the staff offices.
