Recycler the rapping robot is touring south Shropshire’s ‘Zero Waste place’ area next week (Monday 8 to Thursday 11 February) to spread the word about recycling.
Shropshire Council has been awarded special Zero Waste place funding by BREW (the Business Resource Efficiency and Waste Network) to help decrease the amount of waste produced in the area in and around Bishops Castle.
As part of Shropshire Council’s Zero Waste place funding, between 8 and 11 February school children will be receiving a visit from Recycler, who will be bringing recycling to life at local primary schools through his funky interactive show.
The show tells pupils and teachers all about the three Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle and yes, the robot really will perform a toe-tapping rap! Throughout the performance, Recycler shows children how they can reduce their waste, how they can recycle locally, and put the three Rs into practice at home and school.
Larry Wolfe, Head of Waste Management with Shropshire Council, said: “A visit from Recycler the Robot is a fun and memorable way for pupils to learn about the importance of reducing the amount of waste we produce, reusing items that might otherwise have been thrown away and recycling, and complements the waste education programme that Shropshire Council delivers in schools and the work that our Waste Management Team is doing in the Bishops Castle Zero Waste Place area.”
Kat Halstead, Waste and Recycling Adviser at Shropshire Council said: "Every household in the UK throws away over one tonne of waste each year and more than half of this could be recycled. Pupils in the Bishops Castle Zero Waste area will learn from Recycler how important it is to reduce waste and to recycle as much as possible, at home and at school. Joining in with Recycler’s rap and watching the games, props and role-plays is a great way to remember important messages and take them home.”
Recycler the Robot is being brought to the Bishops Castle Zero Waste Place area in Shropshire by Shropshire Council in partnership with Waste Watch and BREW.
