What textiles can be recycled?
Charity shops usually welcome donations of clothes and textiles suitable for resale. In some areas charities will provide textile sacks for kerbside collections too.
There are textile and shoe banks at each of the household recycling centres and at other locations throughout Shropshire for the following :
- clean clothing
- towels
- sheets and blankets
- leathers, belts and handbags
- pillow cases
- shoes in pairs
- curtains
To keep them clean and dry, please put your textiles in a bag before putting them in the recycling bank.
What textiles can’t currently be recycled?
- Dirty materials
- Duvets
- Pillows
- Carpets and rugs
What happens to the textiles?
The textiles are sorted according to quality and type, and either reused in the UK or abroad, or recycled into cleaning cloths and 'shoddy' which can be used for stuffing cushions.
