How to make your visit to the HRC as easy as possible
1) Do not try to take trade waste (i.e waste from any business) to a household recycling centre for recycling or disposal as this is illegal. If anyone is paid to transport any waste – including household or garden waste - they cannot dispose of it at a HRC under any circumstances.
2) Sort your waste into different types beforehand, so that the various materials can easily be put in the right bay, skip or recycling bank. Our aim is to minimise the amount of waste sent to landfill disposal - mixed waste in black bags has to be landfilled. Collection services for general household waste and recyclable materials are provided by your district or borough council.
3) If you have hazardous materials it is very important that you handle and transport these safely, and dispose of them properly, in the correct place at the HRC. Ring Shropshire Waste Partnership on 0845 678 9009 during office hours if you want to dispose of any asbestos waste.
4) Try to avoid the busy times! During the summer period the HRCs are normally quieter between 5pm and 7pm on weekdays, or from 5pm to 6pm at weekends.
5) Remember you need a permit if you want to take waste in any trailer or commercial-type vehicle. The HRCs are not suitable for large vehicles or trailers and these may be turned away from the site for Health and Safety reasons at the discretion of site staff. Please give your permit to a site attendant before depositing any waste.
6) We only accept small amounts of DIY waste, which ideally should be in bags for easy handling at the HRC. If you have large amounts of construction or demolition waste, for example from building projects, garden makeovers etc you should either hire a skip or use a licensed waste carrier to remove and dispose of the waste.
7) Take care in transporting waste - make sure that the load is secure.
8) At the HRCs waste has to be unloaded and lifted over barriers or into skips so do not overload bags. Do not bring ‘wheelie bins’ to the sites – its very difficult to empty these. We do not provide bays where loose waste (garden waste, soil etc) can be tipped on the ground.
9) Site staff will offer to help to unload and deposit waste where possible. However, they must follow Health and Safety rules and cannot lift items which are too heavy. Assistance in unloading loose waste cannot be guaranteed.
10) All customers must comply with any instructions given by staff.
