Access keys - for customers who have difficulty in using a mouse.

Access keys can be used throughout our site and are intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse, or who prefer to use keyboard shortcuts. There are no agreed standards for the use of access keys, but we have followed the UK Government guidelines as much as possible.

You can use access keys as follows:

On Windows machines press ALT + the specific access key, then press ENTER
On Macintosh machines press CTRL + the specific access key, then press ENTER

Access keys have been supported by Internet Explorer since version 4 and by Netscape since version 6. Older browsers do not support access keys and will just ignore them.

  • Internet Explorer 4: Hold down the ALT key and select the number/letter of the access key.
  • Internet Explorer 5 and above: Hold down the ALT key and select the number/letter of the access key, then press ENTER.
  • Internet Explorer 4.5 for Mac: Access keys are not supported.
  • Internet Explorer 5 and above for Mac: Hold down the CTRL key and select the number/letter of the access key.
  • Netscape 6+: Hold down the ALT key and select the number/letter of the access key.
  • Mozilla: Hold down the ALT key and select the number/letter of the access key.
