Text size

Our text content has been set to a legible size and font throughout. You can adjust the size of the text to your own requirements by using our own text resizing options, or by changing the settings within the browser you are using.

Using our text resizing options:

To change the text size of the Shropshire Council web pages, click either the "Resize text" link to cycle through normal, large and extra large text sizes, or click one of the normal, large and extra large "a" boxes at the top of every page. Please note, you must have JavaScript enabled to see these options.

When using this facility, the active text size will be indicated by a light blue background on one of the "a" boxes. Your chosen text size will be stored in a cookie on your computer and will automatically be set for you when you next visit our website.

If you are using Internet Explorer 5, 5.5 or 6:

Go to the View menu and select Text size. You may now choose the text size you require.

If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or 8:

To select a default text size, you can follow the instructions as above (press the ALT key to display the normal menu options at the top of the browser window). Internet Explorer 7 & 8 also have a handy zoom facility located in the bottom-right of the window which will increase the size of text and images on the page. Click on the magnifying glass icon to zoom in and make the page bigger, or click on the arrow to the right to bring up a menu of possible zoom levels.

If you are using Netscape navigator:

Go to the view menu
Down to Text size and then choose 120%, 150% or 200%

If you are using Mozilla or Firefox 1, 1.5 or 2:

Go to the View menu and from the list of options select Text Size. You now have the option to increase or decrease the text as needed.

If you are using Firefox 3:

Click on View then select Zoom. The options to Zoom In and Zoom Out will be available from this menu, and you can exclude images from the magnification by selecting Zoom Text Only.

If you are using Google Chrome 2

Click the Page menu then select Zoom. The options to make the text larger, smaller and normal size are available from this selection.

If you are using Safari 3.2

Click on View, then choose one of the following options: Make Text Bigger, Make Text Normal Size or Make Text Smaller.

If you are using Safari 4

Click on the Page menu then select Zoom. The options to Zoom In, Zoom Out and Actual Size (return to normal) will be available from this menu, and you can exclude images from the magnification by selecting Zoom Text Only.
Alternatively, press the ALT key to display the normal menu options at the top of the browser window, and click on View. The same options to zoom will be available in this menu.

Keyboard and mouse shortcuts for Internet Explorer 7 & 8, Firefox 3, Google Chrome 2 and Safari 3.2 & 4:

  • CTRL + to zoom in
  • CTRL - to zoom out
  • CTRL 0 (zero) to reset to normal size
  • If you have a mouse scroll wheel, hold CTRL and scroll up and down to zoom in and out.
