The Youth Service provides support for young people during their teenage years. The needs of young people are met through a range of project work.
Resources are directed to work with young people aged 11 to 21 years (26 years for those with disabilities). Priority is given to the 13 to 19 age range. Throughout the service there is a strong commitment to equality of opportunity.
The Youth Service has seven main youth centres and other smaller offices. In rural areas, mobile youth clubs reach the more remote communities. Youth Projects cover a wide and varied range of activities, events and happenings as part of their young people focused programme. Programmes more often than not are designed by young people for young people.
A close working relationship was developed with schools, colleges and other partners to support young people most at risk.
The Youth Service is the operating authority for the Duke of Edinburgh and the Youth Achievement Awards Schemes. It supports voluntary youth clubs through the Shropshire Youth Association and provides training, subsidised transport and the loan of equipment to voluntary youth organisations.
Shropshire Council has its own dedicated website for young people. This has been designed by young people and they been involved with the overall content of the site. Please visit shropshireyouth.com for further details on all youth related issues.
