Street dancing and pedal-powered smoothie making are among the activities on offer at a free event organised by Shropshire Council as part of a national festival celebrating young people’s talents.
Young people are invited by Shropshire Youth, the council’s support service for young people, to take part in the Shine in Shropshire event at Shrewsbury Sports Village in Sundorne on Friday 10 July 2009, from 5pm to 8pm.
The event also includes a seven-a-side football tournament, three-on-three basketball, climbing wall activities, cheerleading, and experienced coaches will be running activities tailored to the needs of young people with disabilities. Prizes will be available.
Shine in Shropshire is one of a range of events taking place across the county during the weekend of 10 to 11 July, run by Shropshire Youth to mark Shine Week. Nationally, the week highlights the talents, energy and enthusiasm of young people.
Councillor Aggie Caesar-Homden, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for young people from across Shropshire to experience new and different activities.
“Shine in Shropshire offers something for all young people - and will hopefully encourage more young people to take part in similar activities in their local communities after the event.”
