Community protection General advice

If you are experiencing an infestation or invasive plant problem from a neighbouring property which is affecting you or your property, we always recommend that you try and resolve the problem informally first, before involving the council. You should contact your neighbour and explain politely what it is that you are being troubled by. You may find this difficult, but often people are unaware that they are causing a problem and will be glad to do what they can to reduce it. However, approach the matter carefully if you think your neighbour might react angrily.

The best solution is to try co-operate with your neighbours to control the problem together, by sharing treatment costs or labour for instance. Wherever possible it is best to encourage cooperation and support to prevent any further spread.
