Community protection General advice

Smells, dust and fumes are a part of everyday life, particularly in rural areas during muck spreading seasons.

If the smells, dust or fumes are from a source such as a farmer spreading manure or from a commercial premises, and it is affecting your property, it should subside within 24 hours. If it doesn't, you can report the problem to us and we may investigate the issue further.

Dust on the roads: This is dealt with by the Highways department and will be investigated if the deposits are endangering safety to road users.

Only consider having a bonfire as a last option, and only have a bonfire if you are burning dry organic material such as garden waste. If carried out sensitively, the occasional bonfire or barbecue should not cause a problem.

Many waste items can be recycled - see our recycling and rubbish webpages for more information.
