Local restrictions support grants

Following the end of National Restrictions on the 2 December 2020 Shropshire was placed into COVID Alert Level: High (Tier 2).

The government advised the following grant schemes were available, and on 5 January 2021, the Chancellor announced a one-off top up grant for affected businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors, worth up to £9,000 per property to help businesses through to the Spring.

LRSG (open) scheme – for December 2020 tier restrictions

The Local Restrictions Support Grant (open) provides additional financial support to those businesses that have remained open but have been severely impacted by the local restrictions, reductions in demand or income as a result of the Covid-19 restrictions within the following sectors:

  • Hospitality
  • Accommodation
  • Leisure

Grants will be provided to business based on rateable value:

  • Rateable value of £15,000 or less - £467 for each 14 day restriction period
  • Rateable value between £15,001 and £51,000 - £700 for each 14 day restriction period
  • Rateable value of £51,001 or more - £1,050 for each 14 day restriction period

We started to allocate grants in January 2021 for applications received from December 2020, and provided 2 x 14 day period payments. This means businesses would have received:

  • £934 for rateable values less than £15,000
  • £1,400 for rateable values between £15,001 and £51,000
  • £2,100 for rateable values over £51,001

Please visit the gov.uk website to find out if you are eligible for the LRSG Scheme (open businesses).

If you think you are eligible, please apply now.

LRSG (closed) scheme - for December 2020 tier restrictions

Aimed at businesses such as wet pubs, who are subject to government mandated closure during Tier 2 or 3 restrictions. This scheme replaces the LRSG (closed) Addendum (National Lockdown) scheme for sectors forced to close due to the national lockdown enforced from 5 November 2020 to 2 December 2020.

Grants will be provided to business based on rateable value:

  • Rateable value of £15,000 or less - £667 for each 14 day restriction period
  • Rateable value between £15,001 and £51,000 - £1,000 for each 14 day restriction period
  • Rateable value of £51,001 or more - £1,500 for each 14 day restriction period

We started to allocate grants in January 2021 for December 2020, and provided 2 x 14 day period payments. This means businesses would have received:

  • £1,334 for rateable values less than £15,000
  • £2,000 for rateable values between £15,001 and £51,000
  • £3,000 for rateable values over £51,001

LRSG (sector) scheme

Aimed at nightclubs, casinos and sexual entertainment venues which have been under mandated closure since March 2020. Businesses within this sector will be contacted by our Business Rates service.

Please visit the gov.uk website to find out if you are eligible for the LRSG Scheme (sector).

Christmas Support Payment - wet-led pubs

The Prime Minister announced support for pubs that predominantly serve alcohol rather than food. This is a one-off grant payment of £1,000 for those pubs which can demonstrate that under 50% of their income comes from food sales, regardless of whether they are open or closed due to Tier 2 or Tier 3 restrictions. This is available in addition to other grants for eligible pubs.

Businesses deemed eligible will be contacted directly to confirm their eligibility in due course.

You can find out more information on this support payment on the gov.uk website.

LRSG - businesses required to close from the 5 November 2020 to the 2 December 2020

If your business was forced to close when national restrictions were in force, any application we receive after the 3 December 2020 will be considered under this scheme first before considering other LRSG schemes that are available. As national restrictions have now ended, the payments are a one off payment for the period 5 November 2020 to the 2 December 2020 as per below:

  • Rateable value of £15,000 or less, a grant payment of £1,334
  • Rateable value between £15,001 and £51,000, a grant payment of £2,000
  • Rateable value of £51,000 or more, a grant payment of £3000

Have you been previously awarded LRSG funding?

If you have already submitted an application for a LRSG grant because your business was required to close from the 5 November 2020 to the 2 December 2020, then you do not need to apply again. We already have your details and if your business qualifies for a further grant award this will be made in due course. This includes businesses we have already paid. We will start sending email confirmation from Thursday 17 December 2020 through to the new year.

Payments of further grants through the LRSG schemes and Christmas Support Payment (for wet-led pubs) will commence once further guidance and confirmation from government is provided. We appreciate your patience whilst we administer these schemes.

If your business has been severely affected by COVID related government restrictions, you may be eligible for further support through LRSG.

How to apply for the LRSG

For those in the pub, hospitality, leisure and accommodation sectors – automatic awards will be made where you have recently been awarded a national grant during the November lockdown. Email confirmation will be sent to qualifying businesses starting from Thursday 17 December 2020.

For all other businesses which fall into the categories above and have not previously applied for the LRSG schemes, please complete an online application form.

Before you apply, you must have the following information available to complete your application:

  • Business bank statements to evidence the business was trading and has seen a significant reduction in income as a result of COVID-19 (pre March lockdown and current bank statements)

Businesses that operate from multiple premises need to apply separately for each premise.

We ask that you do not contact us to follow up on your request or payment. Doing so requires us to redirect limited resources to answer calls and individual enquiries, slowing our ability to check and process payments to everyone as quickly as possible.

Please also see our list of frequently asked questions for details on how long the process will take, when you will be paid (if your application is approved), and other similar topics.

If your business does meet the eligibility criteria, please
