Shropshire Council

Handyperson service

Our handyperson service undertakes small scale jobs and minor adaptations for residents of Shropshire who are disabled, victims of crime, at high risk of falling or who are vulnerable in other ways.

We work closely with occupational therapists and other health professionals when providing minor adaptations. We want to ensure that you're safe and can live independently for as long as possible in your own home.

This service is available to both homeowners and tenants. It's important, however, that tenants have received permission from their landlords before we can proceed with any works.

  • Home security - key safes, window locks etc
  • Minor adaptations - grab rails, steps etc
  • Home maintenance - fitting shelves/flat pack furniture, curtain rails etc

The list above isn't exhaustive. If you have any further questions please contact our Handyperson team using the contact details below to discuss how we may be able to help you.

Unfortunately, we're unable to do the following:

  • Any gas works
  • Any electrical works
  • Any jobs at height
  • Any plumbing works

How much does it cost?

A charge of £20 per hour (exclusive of VAT), plus the cost of any materials.

How long will I have to wait?

The typical time wait for work to be completed is 15 working days for standard referrals and five working days for any urgent or hospital discharge referrals.

How to apply

Our office is open Monday to Thursday 9am - 5pm, and Fridays 9am - 4pm.
