The SSSAA serves the administrative areas of Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin within the ceremonial county boundary of Shropshire. It's the umbrella organisation which co-ordinates and supports, through area associations, fourteen individual school sports, each with their own association.

The SSSAA receives funding support from Shropshire Council and Telford & Wrekin Council, in addition to the annual affiliation fees which are collected from all schools and colleges, including independents across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. This funding supports:

• Inter-area competitions
• County schools representative teams
• The annual John Beswick International Awards Evening
• General administration expenses for the individual associations
• Transport for county representative teams

• To encourage and promote sports and athletics for the schoolchildren of the county
• Arrange annual area sports and athletics meetings for the county championships
• Abide by the rules of the schools' associations for the various games and sports
• Enable representatives to compete in schools' associations inter-county, national and international competitions

The SSSAA coordinates inter-school competitions and county representative teams. This activity provides a pathway for talented individuals to national representation.

The SSSAA organises a presentation evening for the many young people who win international honours every year. The list includes individuals who receive coaching in clubs outside of school, and those from private schools. The SSSAA also occasionally organises national school sports events.

The affiliation period runs within the schools' financial year.

Affiliation entitlement

Affiliation to the SSSAA provides:

• Entry into county competitions
• Eligibility for pupils to be selected at county level within their chosen sport
• Transport for teams for representative fixtures

As its function is to serve all young people within the county, membership of the SSSAA is open to all state schools and colleges, academies and independents. Non-affiliation will result in teams or individuals from those educational establishments being prevented from entering county school sports competitions. Additionally, pupils from non-affiliated schools / colleges will not be eligible for county selection.

Affiliation fee requests will be sent out automatically on an annual basis. If a school / college doesn't wish to affiliate, please email Leisure Services at leisure@shropshire.gov.uk
