In this talk our reader & writer in residence, Dave Andrews, recalls his trek to the famous Base Camp in Nepal where the first successful expedition set off for the summit of Everest in 1953.

He mentions the wonderful Nepali people he met and his encounters with Brian Blessed, who was making his final, unsuccessful attempt to reach the top and with Fergie (Sarah Ferguson), Duchess of York. The struggles with altitude sickness, crossing the dangerous Khumbu glacier and a terrifying flight in a light aeroplane from Kathmandu are just some of the many adventures Dave will describe.
