Carers week 2017

Shropshire Libraries are highlighting the wide range of resources that are available to carers. Carers are entitled to a concessionary library card to make library services easily accessible in person and online. A wide selection of fiction and non-fiction titles are also available in accessible formats such as e-books, large print, audiobooks and Quick Reads.

Shared Memory Bags are portable cases for reminiscence use. The bags contain books, objects and memory triggers to encourage the sharing of memories and conversation. Carers can borrow a Shared Memory bag free of charge for three weeks. The following themed bags are available: Football, Time for Tea, School Days, Pocket Money, Pets, Travelling, Childhood Days, Sporting Life and World of Work.

Libraries stock Reading Well books, which are collections of titles designed to offer assistance with common conditions such as depression, anxiety and low self-esteem for adults and young people. Carers and family members can also find a special collection of books for people diagnosed with dementia, their carers, and people worried about symptoms or wanting to find out more about the condition.

Many libraries offer sociable daytime activities, such as reading groups, Knit & Natter gatherings, and the popular Time to Listen sessions where adults are invited to sit back in comfort and listen to fiction and poetry read aloud.
