Health Information Week in Shropshire’s Libraries

13 June 2018 Last updated at 11:45

Free, specialist information and support concerning cancer is coming to Shropshire’s libraries during Health Information Week in early July. Macmillan Cancer Support’s information and support team will be visiting from 10am to 4pm on the following dates to answer questions and provide information:

  • Tuesday 3 July Whitchurch library
  • Wednesday 4 July Oswestry Library
  • Thursday 5 July Shrewsbury Library
  • Friday 6 July Bridgnorth Library

Danielle Mellows from Macmillan Cancer said: “The team encourages anyone with worries or concerns relating to cancer to stop by, whether you’re living with or beyond cancer, or are a carer or loved one of someone who is. Whether you want to know what symptoms to look out for, need information about managing the side effects of your treatment, or want to find local support for carers, come along and see us. We’d be happy to help. If you're unable to visit us but have questions about cancer, visit the Macmillan website or call Macmillan free on 0808 808 00 00 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 8pm).”

All libraries in Shropshire provide access to accredited health information and support through the national Reading Well scheme, offering books specifically designed to help people manage long-term health problems, mental health and dementia. Regular drop-in events with health professionals, such as hearing aid clinics, also take place in some branches, and library staff are also working in partnership with local hospitals to provide improved access to useful resources.
