Pontesbury Neighbourhood Plan

Designation

An application by Pontesbury Parish Council to designate a neighbourhood plan area went out for public consultation from 28 September to 12 December 2016. The application was approved by Shropshire Council's Cabinet on 1 March 2017.

Consultation

The Pontesbury community were consulted on the draft Neighbourhood Plan during 2018 and 2019.

Submission

Shropshire Council received a submission of the draft Pontesbury Neighbourhood Plan and supporting documents from Pontesbury Parish Council on 10 October 2022 and consulted on these documents in accordance with Regulation 16 of the Neighbourhood Planning (General) Regulations 2012, from 28 October to 9 December 2022.

Examination

In January 2023, Tony Burton CBE BA MPhil (Town Planning) FRIBA FRSA was appointed as the independent examiner for the plan. He assessed the plan to decide if it met the basic conditions and could proceed to a referendum with modifications. The amended plan went to Cabinet on 19 July 2023.

Referendum

A referendum was held on 7 September 2023. The result was 85.54% in favour of Shropshire Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Pontesbury to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area.

Adoption

At its Council meeting on 14 December 2023, Shropshire Council resolved to ‘make’ the Pontesbury Neighbourhood Plan.

The ‘making’ of the Plan means the Plan is adopted and now forms part of the statutory development plan for the area.
