Flowers and books of condolence

Books of condolence were open across Shropshire enabling people to pay tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth II.

These gave Shropshire residents the opportunity to pay their respects and share their thoughts, feelings and memories about her 70-year reign.

Books of condolence were open at the following council-owned locations up to 5pm on Tuesday 20 September:

  • Bridgnorth Library
  • Broseley Library
  • Ludlow Library
  • Mayor’s Parlour, The Castle, Shrewsbury
  • Market Drayton Library
  • Oswestry Library
  • Shrewsbury Library
  • Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury
  • Shrewsbury Museum, Shrewsbury
  • Whitchurch Library

Books of condolences were also available at a number of town and parish councils and churches in Shropshire:

  • Bayston Hill:
    • The Memorial Hall, Lyth Hill Road
  • Church Stretton:
    • Silvester Horne Institute (between 10am and 4pm)
    • St Lawrence's Church
  • Ellesmere:
    • Ellesmere Town Hall (10am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 3pm weekdays)
    • St Mary's Church
  • Cleobury Mortimer:
    • St Mary's Church
  • Much Wenlock:
    • Holy Trinity Church
  • Wem:
    • Wem Town Hall

Alternatively, you can sign the national online condolence book.

If you don't have access to the internet or weren't able to go to a location to sign a book of condolence, you can send handwritten messages or cards addressed to Chair of Shropshire Council, Democratic Services, Shirehall, Shrewsbury, SY2 6ND. These will be placed in the books of condolences.

Floral tributes were made at Shrewsbury Castle as well as many other local locations across the county.
