Shropshire Council

Road safety policy

Our Road Safety Policy enables us to consider which measures will best address defined problems, taking account of road function, accident data analysis and community-led concerns.

How can a local road safety concern be raised?

There is a requirement to demonstrate community support for any road safety concerns raised. Members of the general public are encouraged to approach town and parish councils directly with any road safety concerns. These councils will accept requests first and then submit those that they support and consider to have a level of shared community concern, to us.

Town and parish councils can submit prioritised lists of up to five road safety concerns to us three times a year.

Notes

This policy supersedes the following council policies:

  • Village Speed Limit Policy (2009)
  • Vehicle-activated Signs Policy (2009)
  • Rural Speed Limit Policy (2010)
  • Urban Speed Limit Policy [draft]
  • Road Safety Policy within LTP [draft]

In December 2013, a technical note outlining our preferred approach on the use of 20mph speed restrictions was approved.
