As of Thursday 14 July 2016, the Shrop.NET website was closed down.
This service was launched in 2006 as a joint venture between the pre-unitary borough, district and county councils, and served to provide free 'mini' websites to community groups and town and parish councils.
Over the years since its launch, other online services became available to the public, and these gradually began to show how outdated Shrop.NET had become in terms of design options and functionality. As part of an annual review of Shrop.NET, it became clear to see that the ongoing costs to run and support it could be put to better use elsewhere.
Following an initial consultation that took place in January and February 2016, a proposal was taken to cabinet on Wednesday 8 June to close down Shrop.NET at the end of its current hosting and support contract.
This proposal was agreed. However, owing to the short time between this decision and the end of the contract (Tuesday 14 June) it was decided to extend the life of Shrop.NET by a month to allow the very few town and parish councils who hadn't yet finished creating replacement websites to do so. The Shrop.NET service therefore closed on Thursday 14 July 2016.Last updated: 14 July 2016 Print this page
