The HIVE in Shrewsbury have some new fantastic workshop opportunities coming up starting next week, with sessions delivered online and supporting creative activities to be worked on at home, for 16 – 30 year olds who may be struggling with anxiety or other barriers to independence.

MYCollege 2020

MyCollege is The Hive’s flagship wellbeing project, focussed on delivering creative and structured workshops enabling 16 – 30 year olds who may be struggling with anxiety, or other barriers to independence. Here they will meet others, engage in creative activity with professional artists, build confidence and have fun. We anticipate that participants will stay with us for anywhere between 8 – 24 sessions. The sessions aim for participants to:

  • Feel positive and more confident
  • Feel comfortable in being who they are
  • Value working with others
  • Build their own resilience

No previous experience required in any of the creative forms.
All are open to those who are able to attend just some of the sessions.
The Hive will offer support to those taking part to access sessions on Zoom.
Materials and tools can be delivered to participants to enable all sessions to be fully accessible.

STOP!motion
Wednesdays 2 – 4pm - on Zoom starting Wednesday 5th August [6 weeks]

A chance to work together to produce a short stop motion animation film that will be led by participants’ own experiences, opinions and common interests. Participants will be introduced to a variety of stop motion styles and pre-existing films in an environment that encourages them to engage and evaluate the work, becoming more confident with expressing their own opinions and considering those of others. Participants will learn practical stop motion skills and techniques using free software and their own phones building fundamental skills in understanding movement, framing and storytelling. The participants will be engaged with creating their own short films and develop their own creativity to explore their own thoughts and feelings as well as creating elements for a larger project where they will have to consider how each other's work will interact together to tell their combined story. Resources will be provided and The Hive may be able to help if individuals do not own a smart phone – please get in touch. Led by artist Calum Barre.

SEPTEMBER

Art Club
Wednesdays 2 – 4pm – on Zoom starting Wed 16th September [8 weeks]

An opportunity to make connections with others through art and discussion, this 8-week series will act as a catalyst, encouraging creativity and providing guidance, encouragement, materials and equipment to engage participants during and beyond each session. ArtClub will be led by Stephanie Kelly who will use discussions around Artists’ work and demonstrations of techniques to help support and inspire participants to create their own work. All participants will be encouraged to share Artwork and ideas, and have the opportunity to work on drawings, paintings, mixed media, sculpture and ceramics. For those unable, or reluctant, to access MyCollege Art Club on Zoom, we can provide Creative Art packs through the post with activities to undertake and invitations to engage with Stephanie at different stages.
