Shropshire Council

Seeking proposals to establish a special free school

22 March 2019 Last updated at 10:15

In 2018 the Department for Education (DfE) announced a new round of free school funding and invited local authorities in England to submit bids for a specialist free school. In response Shropshire Council submitted a bid for a free school to meet the needs of children with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties following recognition of this as a strategic need within Shropshire.

We have recently been informed that the secretary of state has decided that the bid to establish a special school in Shropshire should proceed to the next stage of the process – the trust competition stage. This means that we are now required to advertise the opportunity for potential trusts to apply to establish the new school and to publish our specification on our website.

If you would like further information about this development and are interested in applying to establish a new school in Shropshire please take a look at the full specification.
