The Keystone Academy - New SEN school in Shrewsbury

25 November 2021 Last updated at 10:38

The brand-new Keystone Academy is due to open its doors in Shrewsbury in September 2022. It will be the latest addition to the multi-academy Youth Engagement Schools (YES) Trust’s portfolio.

The Keystone Academy will be a Special Educational Needs school for 120 children with Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) who experience Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. The school will provide an education to children from reception right up to Year 11 (in classes of maximum 10 pupils). We will be offering a varied, interesting and inspiring curriculum with a focus on vocational and well-being subjects as well as academic subjects.

The Academy will begin its journey at a temporary school in Shrewsbury. This will be a safe, nurturing environment where the staff and students will begin to build the Keystone family. The students will ultimately benefit from a brand-new school with lots of fantastic facilities, which will be constructed on Squinter Pip Way in Bowbrook, Shrewsbury. The new building is scheduled to open in September 2023.

We are dedicated to our school-wide approach of fostering positive emotional well-being and mental health. By adopting this holistic approach to supporting children with both their education and their emotional well-being, we can empower pupils to recognise and manage their own needs. With targeted support and guidance, they can increase their sense of worth and become confident, contributing members of society. Though academic progress is very important, we place a great deal of emphasis on personal, social and emotional development. This will form the basis of all we do at the school. Our ultimate aim is to prepare children for being successful adults who go on to live happy lives.

We welcome any interest from parents and carers.  If you think your child would benefit from a place at The Keystone Academy please get in touch for more information or an informal chat. We would be more than happy to meet with you at home or at one of our other academies and we would love to meet any child that may be a potential Keystone Academy pupil.
